Job Purpose:
To deliver high-quality teaching of GCSE Art and therapeutic art sessions to students with medical and mental health needs, fostering creativity, confidence, and personal growth. The role requires a nurturing approach, recognising the unique needs of students in a hospital school setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning:
Plan and deliver engaging GCSE Art lessons tailored to individual students’ abilities and needs.
Develop creative and therapeutic art activities that support students’ emotional well-being.
Assess, monitor, and report on student progress in line with school policies and examination requirements.
Ensure all students are supported to achieve their full potential, adapting teaching strategies where necessary.
Student Support:
Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where students feel valued and supported.
Work collaboratively with the therapeutic and pastoral teams to address students’ emotional and mental health needs through art.
Encourage student participation and build confidence through positive reinforcement and personalised support.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with colleagues, including therapists and other education professionals, to develop and implement holistic support plans.
Attend and contribute to team meetings, parent consultations, and multi-disciplinary meetings as required.
Professional Development and Safeguarding:
Engage in continuous professional development to enhance subject knowledge and teaching practice.
Adhere to school safeguarding policies, ensuring the safety and welfare of all students.
Maintain accurate records in line with statutory and school requirements.

Person Specification:
Qualifications and Training:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – Essential.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Art or a related subject – Essential.
• Evidence of continuing professional development – Desirable.
• Experience:
• Experience teaching GCSE Art, including preparing students for examinations – Essential.
• Experience working with students with additional needs, such as mental health challenges or medical conditions – Desirable.
• Experience integrating therapeutic approaches into teaching – Desirable.
Skills and Knowledge:
• Strong knowledge of the GCSE Art curriculum, including assessment criteria and exam board requirements.
• Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual student needs.
• Understanding of therapeutic approaches to art and their benefits for emotional well-being.
• Excellent classroom management and behaviour support skills.
